In the last 12 months JLM has taken significant steps to improve customer outcomes and business quality in protection sales, focusing on three particular areas; professional development, protection specific targets and specialist knowledge.
Delivering internal workshops partnered alongside trusted providers, has enabled advisers to expand their knowledge and understanding around protection products. This in turn has led to greater engagement with clients, higher levels of product penetration and improved client satisfaction.
Redefined protection targets for residential mortgages, has prompted greater focus from advisers on clients’ protection needs. High expectations have benefited clients, producing a more balanced approach to their mortgage and protection needs, as well as improved sales figures.
Where clients’ needs are more complex, protection advice benefits from a degree of specialist knowledge and experience. Mortgage advisers have found the option to refer clients to a protection-only adviser, not only means their clients achieve tailored outcomes, but they are free to spend more time concentrating on mortgage sales. Via a protection only adviser, we have found the average number of policies sold per mortgage case has increased to 5.3.
Refining processes and knowledge in the protection area of the business has built greater trust and understanding with clients, fewer omissions during application and a better persistency rate. This improved approach also allows advisers to fully explore the protection arena with each client, rather than the process remaining very mortgage-centric.
