Michelle Leyland – South Yorkshire Money & Adverse Money

In 2002, I joined Skipton BS on a 6-month temporary contract. Fast forward 17 years, I am a Director in 3 mortgage businesses, managing a team of people thanks to The Money Group.

Securing the best outcome for clients by ‘doing what is right, not what is easy’, has given me a wealth of repeat business with heart-warming recommendations. Loyalty is only as good as the last transaction, so providing a memorable, meaningful client journey is at the heart of everything I do. No matter what happens in my career, my passion will always be in doing the ‘day job’.

“Michelle is the consummate professional – very friendly, polite and easy to deal with. Michelle regularly updates me with progress and explains the process in non-technical easy to understand terms”
Mrs L – Client

It is not enough to have just aptitude – you also need the attitude to run alongside it. I like to lead by example, striving to achieve this in all my interactions with peers and my team. I work hard to create an environment that makes them happy to come to work.

“Not only have you set up two companies in the last 6 months, you have kept us all in check with the business and momentum going. You are a brilliant manager, making sure that everyone is okay. You make sure that the team is always on top form. You drive people to work harder and achieve more”

Catherine Young – Administration Manager

Being available and flexible, whilst maintaining structure has had its challenges. I’m a full-time single parent, so there are certain sacrifices I’ve had to make to show my daughter that women can be strong, independent and successful. Despite my battles with anxiety, I live by my motto– “no matter how you feel, get up, dress up, show up!”

I would never have thought that I would ever be nominated by my peers for such a prestigious award. The Money Group has enabled and encouraged me to stretch my own personal goals. This year I have set up Adverse Money, a brokerage designed to help vulnerable clients that can be easily forgotten by the wider industry. This has enabled me to specialise in complicated and complex areas but the wins, when they come, can change peoples lives forever.

“I just wanted to say a massive thank you to you and your staff at Adverse Money. I have had the best experience since I first spoke to you only 3 weeks ago. It has been a pleasant, easy and quick process which we are all over the moon with. I can’t thank you enough for making our dreams come true…”
Mr & Mrs Knowles

This year I have also had the opportunity to work with some of the most fantastic charities such as Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, Dans helping-hand and most recently supporting Ashley McKenzie, Team GB Judo champion on a school tour talking to children about bullying, mental health and how sport can change your life.
