I’m delighted to have made the shortlist but some of you may not know much about my disruptive mortgage and protection business in deepest darkest Derbyshire, so here it goes!
A competitive soul, after several years employed I’d won all the awards and had the top employed team in the business but I was fed up. Too many compromises having to keep the EA overlords happy and pandering to people that did things certain ways ‘just because that’s how they’d always been done’. The customer wasn’t king.
So I left the guaranteed paycheck, team of 27 advisors and company car to set up Peak last summer. The goal was clear. I want to be THE company locally that people go to when they need amazing advice for mortgages and protection. To do that? Simple really. Everything we do is about making a client want to recommend us to their friends of family.
It comes down to absolutely knocking every customers socks off, every time from the moment they walk in the door (virtually at the moment) and offering them a beer (yes we have those), tea or coffee, all the way through to after they’ve moved in to their new home. 5 star service every, step of the way.
The results? Well incredibly in just over a year we sit on 185 5 star Google Reviews (the most in the whole County) meaning that clients and referrers actively seek us out now. So we’ve taken on advisors to do the same in other locations with the team exploding from 2 (me and my incredible admin Liv) to 11 since Feb! We’ve also made the shortlists for the Cover Excellence, BMA’s and I believe there is something kicking off on LinkedIn about ‘best beard in financial services’ so there definitely seems so be a buzz about us at the moment.
Simply check out our Google reviews. Our clients say it better than I ever could.
The bit I’m most proud of? We really, really support local causes. We’re on track this year to donate £5,000 to Laurens Legacy which helps local teenage cancer sufferers. We don’t stop there though. This month alone we’ve also supported 2 local rugby clubs, a toy library, a foodbank and provided gardening supplies to help the local primary plant some trees.
We believe helping the local community is extremely important – why wouldn’t you want to help other causes in your community? Moreover why would a prospective client choose to use a company that doesn’t?
Finally, if you’ve seen our social media pages you will see that we try to be a breath of fresh air, challenging preconceptions around ‘stuffiness’ in the industry. Pop ‘#Peakamania’ into Instagram and Facebook and see for yourself. It’s all really resonated with the public.
I’m so proud of the company we have become over the past year. If we are lucky enough to win the award it would be the cherry on the top of a fantastic year for the business!
